THE WARRIOR
by Jack Gilhooley,
directed by Kevin Murray.
Produced by Theater of the First Amendment, the professional theater in residence at George Mason University’s Center for the Arts in Fairfax, VA.
THE WARRIOR stars Marietta Elaine Hedges, with Mary Lechter. After her second tour of duty serving her country in Iraq, Tammy returns with a severe case of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, a broken marriage, and a very real possibility of losing her daughter. Her quasi-radical-feminist filmmaker friend from high school thinks she’d make a good documentary subject.
THE WARRIOR is a frank look at PTSD, the war they don’t show on tv, and one veteran’s options when little attention is paid to the battle scars that are invisible. Presented in the twilight of the Bush administration, THE WARRIOR tells a timely cautionary tale of war’s aftermath and its effects on our troops, long after “Mission accomplished!” has been declared. Marietta Elaine Hedges delivers a powerful and heartfelt performance as Tammy, driven deeper into her egg-shell psyche by the off-stage voice of filmmaker Giselle, portrayed by Mary Lechter.
THE WARRIOR won’t change the world, or stop the war. But it will unflinchingly trace one woman’s battle: at home, at war, with cameras rolling.
